A Masterpiece Depicting a Masterpiece

another painting? well, i guess i'll keep going past 2,000. i have to because awesome. i have to because i haven't painted everything for everyone yet. and i definitely have to because i promised 70 people that i would paint for them as perks from my recent Indiegogo campaign. so this next bunch are requests from people that supported my Freedom Victory Tour!

how cool! the first painting perk requested by a Power Hour tour supporter is my Power Hour Album! on a Shot Glass USB of course. if you don't know what that is, let me explain. it's a thing that's awesome that you need to have.

BANG! and just like that - after 6 years - i have free painted 2,000 times. check out the celebratory video below! this time lapse is a never-before-seen glimpse into what it means to bring some Ali Art into existence.

now multiply that by 2,000. here, i'll make it easier for you. click below to see the huge image where i put together all of the paintings for your vertical and horizontal scrolling pleasure.

if all of the paintings were hanging together like that, the wall would actually be over four stories tall and wider than the width of an NBA basketball court.

2,000 square feet of art. yay! :)

I Make Better Art Than My Paintings Do

i'm a little late posting and i have a great excuse! i was spending the day with my mommy because it's her birthday. happy birthday, mom!

it's very fitting this specific painting showed up on her day. she made me. this painting is my attempt at making me. clearly she did a better job. her masterpiece is so much more detailed... and beautiful... and smart... and modest.

A Prolonged Romance

quite a while ago, a woman requested a badger. i got to her on the wait list a year and ten months later. then her boyfriend requested a stomping bunny to hang next to the badger. this is that stomping bunny! it's taken two and a half years (and one day, exactly) but the badger and stomping bunny are now united on a wall together. what a patient couple!

Drunk Duck Just Lets It All Happen

what? no, i don't know how he can hold a mug with a wing. stop analyzing. take a lesson from the duck. quit asking questions and have a beer.

A Balanced Dinner Party

octopuses have many legs and corgis barely have any legs. seriously, though. corgis are just like... little loaves with heads. i swear i've even seen one with no legs before. just an owner dragging a loaf around the park with a leash. but no bow tie, though.

Making Connections

i turned on the TV right before i started writing this and Indiana Jones happens to be on. that movie came out the same year as Gremlins and Neverending Story. whoa. and the ghostbusters happen to be headed to my apartment right now to hang out! ok i made that last part up. but actually true: Footloose also came out that year. this is now a post that's about six degrees of Kevin Bacon.

Quotes Make a Difference

this requester went to Pitt and wanted to ride their building, the "Cathedral of Learning". or as the Carnegie Mellon Students know it, the "Cathedral of 'Learning'".

YAY!! 2,000 Free Paintings!

HUGE NEWS! i've now created 2,000 pieces of artwork in my Free Paintings project!! can you believe it?! 2,000 square feet of art mailed to people all over the world. when i started this 6 years ago, i never thought i would get this far. thank you to the 2,000 people that are a part of this project so far. (and to the future people that will be!) especially thank you to the people that donated to help me keep this going!

i made a video to celebrate this crazy milestone. up until today, my painting process has been a mystery. well now you can watch my 2,000th painting come to life! i filmed a time lapse of me painting it.

as i'm sure you figured, i'm usually a few paintings ahead of my daily blog posts to be sure that i don't miss any days. so this momentous painting won't show up until Friday of next week. but since i've reached the 2,000 mark and i'm super excited about it, i'm telling the world now :)

a pretty cool stat: if you hung each painting above each other straight up, they would be as tall as a 200-story building. below is the shot from the video of all the paintings filling the screen. i added a human silhouette so you could get a better idea of just how much square footage of art i've made happen. please imagine yourself standing next to a wall of that size covered in paintings :)

so have i painted everything that ever was for everyone that ever is yet?... no?... ok, i'll keep going.

Apparently I Just Paint What I'm Told Twice

cool, so yesterday's nonsense painting comes with a twin. they're fraternal twins, though because they're not exactly alike.

Yes, I Just Paint What I'm Told

luckily cats and toasters can't read so they don't know how little sense their painting makes.

A Couple of Monsters

i forgot to post yesterday and i have a great excuse! it slipped my mind because i was working hard on a new video [preview shot to the left]. there's something big coming for this project soon and i'm pretty darn psyched about it! stay tuned.

baby godzilla is much more terrifying than adult godzilla. that giant diaper is dangerous.

here's the last of the Drinking Quest crew. you can see them all in their snowy wonderland below. it's obviously freezing but none of them are cold. liquid blankets are very useful.

His Painting Is Home to a Bowl of Booze, Too

this guy is named Ermagerd. he's the third character from my Drinking Quest series. his painting is also home to the snowman that the other characters built. i'm guessing Ermagerd had nothing to do with it because he has hooves.

That's What I'd Use Witchcraft For

this is Daiquirin, character number two from the Drinking Quest series. she's an elf witch. i imagine that means her cosmo magically never empties.

Painting fo a Likeminded Partier... er... Entrepreneur

this is Chuglox, the first in a series Drinking Quest paintings. i've become buddies with a lot of other drinking product creators (there are surprisingly more than you'd think) because i myself am a drinking product creator. i figured the mastermind behind Drinking Quest deserved some free art. four free arts to be exact. stay tuned!

Duffman Says: Use Duff Light for All Your Power Hour Needs

this requester wanted a cartoon character wearing my Shot Glass USB. obviously i went with my dream date, Duffman. i can't even imagine what would happen if he actually got a hold of my Power Hour Album. the party would be too much. our fragile earth could not handle it. Duffman, Andrew W.K., Ke$ha, Slurms McKenzie and i would have to get into a rocket ship together and execute the epic bash in the safety of space.

Bowser Used to Be Cooler Than Both. That's Why He Hates Them Now

it's called super mario bros. but it certainly doesn't seem like an equal partnership between the siblings. for one thing, their name is totally unfair. it's not super luigi bros. mario is definitely the star. further supported by the fact that i have yet to get a luigi painting request. what i find hard to believe is that luigi is taller. how is the short guy the more popular one? it makes me feel like mario was overlooked and under appreciated in high school while everyone loved luigi. but luigi peaked and after they graduated, mario's talents (i don't know... jumping, plumbing, eating mushrooms) started getting him ahead in life and he became the cool one. though i think luigi's cool with just taking it easy and riding the coattails of his successful brother.

My Free Cat Will Be Compared to $9.95 Cats

this is for my buddy Steve Gadlin. he's internet famous and TV contest show famous. he's brilliant. he executes lots of brilliant things but he's most well known for drawing cats for you because he was on Shark Tank for it.

his project is like mine only it's smart because it makes the dollars. he can create tons of artworks a day and his supplies are super cheap (Sharpies and computer paper). i can only crank out one a day and my project has a large overhead for canvases and paints. oh and also Steve charges for his work. brilliant! why didn't i think of that?

but no really, Steve is a hard working and hilarious dude. i'm honored to have painted a cat for the cat drawing guy. if quantity equals talent (so says the 10,000 hours in Outliers), well then Steve is the best cat drawer in the world. i hope my work is good enough to be seen by this master.

Sea What I Did There? Really Branching Out With My Jokes

darn. i missed posting yesterday. so now you get two paintings on this fine punday. er... monday.

i take my art very seriously even though i squid around a lot.

the guy that got this painting was raven to his friends about it.

I Didn't Come Up With This But It's Good So I'm Telling You

i told the doctor about a weird pain in my right eye every time i drank hot chocolate. the doctor suggested i take the spoon out of the cup.

This Post Can Be Used as Evidence Against Me in a Mental Hospital

this painting is far less interesting than it's picture's file name. which is dogbaby.jpg. there's something i find hilarious about the nonexistent word "dogbaby". i have no idea why. hee hee. say it out loud :D i want to coin it as a word. and not a word for a universe where "puppy" never existed. i want it to mean something completely unrelated to a dog and a baby. and i want it to come up in normal conversation all the time. and i want it to be stated in a very flat, emotionless manner. let's make it a really specific use of the word "ok". every time you say "ok" and mean "yeah, i get what you're saying. keep going." you should say "dogbaby" instead.
Dogbaby interjection
1. Used by a listener to express that the listener understands what the speaker is communicating and that the speaker should continue
2. An uncreative file name for an image of a dog and a baby

Person 1: I was walking to the store
Person 2: Dogbaby.
Person 1: ... and the weather was lovely.
great! i can't wait for this to take off.

This Gent Is the Cat's Pajamas

i say! get a load of this seafaring dandy. well, isn't he just the bees knees? zounds! i swear he could be one of the fellows in the flicker shows, those talkies, ya see? this is the whiz-banging-est painting this side of the Atlantic. and it doesnt't cost one clam! hah! get it? clams are in the sea... ho ho that's just sharkfeathers. (instead of horsefeathers!) well now i'm just cracking wise. i'd better skedaddle before someone gets a bee in their bonnet and wants to start a row because i'm chiming in with the lingo that's buzzin' with the youngsters. i certainly don't want to get into one devil of a skirmish. 23 skidoo!

Frank Doesn't Blend in with My Past Bunnies

i broke from my usual style for this one. i would have been cool to give this subject a super-cute makeover but the requester wanted something darker. darko-er.

I Feel Accepted

Unitarian Universalists seem to be very open and respectful towards lots of things. because of this, i have a good feeling about my painting of their symbol. they're totally not going to tell me it sucks.

And I'm the Singer That Paints for Him

this is Colin, the lawyer that drums for me when i perform in Pittsburgh. ok, i guess the phrase "lawyer that drums for me" sounds odd. he's my drummer that happens to be a lawyer. and an impressive drinker. he only wanted two of those attributes in his painting.
