SXEZ SKOZ

if you had an original nintendo with game genie, you'll recognize these letters as the skywalker cheat for super mario brothers 3. skywalking is a sweet concept! being able to jump from any point you were in space? that's way more fun than it would have been to just hold down a button to fly or something like that. the game designers that came up with skywalking are brilliant.

anyway, this painting is for a musician that goes by these letters as his name. i believe he pronounces it "skezz skozz". i remember saying the same thing after looking up the cheat in the game genie book. it was my favorite cheat because it made everything way easier but still gave you a sense of accomplishment. man i wish i could skywalk.

Skyscrapers and Respect to Andy

i have no excuse. i just forgot to post. so here's two. it's cool though because they're both pittsburgh themed.

there are no words.

i was asked for a painting of skyscrapers. if you're a yinzer you'll recognize that they're the taller buildings in pittsburgh.

Werewolf

this is for a group of friends that plays some game called werewolf (also known as mafia) once a month. he's less cute than my usual style because i figured these role playing gamers would want something serious and tough.

I Also Redefined "Hour"

the big word project sucked me in again. the definition of "hour" is now my power hour site.

I Redefined the Word "Paint"

a couple of guys started something called the big word project. "The project allows you to purchase a word from our list to represent your site. Your site will then represent this word in our list and when people click on it, they will be taken to your site. The project is aimed at changing definitions and creating a new tapestry of words, meaning altogether different things." you can buy words for $1 a letter. the word "paint" now means my free paintings site!

Viola da Gambia

this is for a guy in austria that likes baroque music. its an instrument that was developed in the 1400s. viola da gambia means "viol for the leg" because you hold it like a cello.

Samizdat Squid

Samizdat (Russian: самиздат) was the clandestine copying and distribution of government-suppressed literature or other media in Soviet-bloc countries. Copies were made a few at a time, and those who received a copy would be expected to make more copies. This was often done by handwriting or typing.

this was painted for a guy who has a DIY club night called samizdat. i dont really know what a DIY club night is or why he asked for a squid....but i expect him to make hand painted copies of his free painting and distribute them to others.

Pinecone the Cat

"pinecone" in norwegian is "kongla". i'm just going to assume there's a cat in norway that plays with pinecones and has this name even though i mailed the painting to london.

this irish terrier's name is king. i painted the crown on his head at request of one of his royal subjects.

Paper Crane

i heard once that its bad luck if you "break a paper crane's neck". that means bending one end to give it a head. i think thats dumb. it looks like a two-tailed, two-winged lamefest until you define its head. i hope i'm not getting bad luck just because of my aesthetic preferences.

Red Betta

i had a betta once. his name was phish. i think he hated me or life. he would stick his head out of the water and nip at my finger if i held it above his bowl. he tried to commit suicide once. i had him in water next to the sink while i was cleaning his bowl. he jumped out and directly into the sink drain. a $50 plumbing bill and one hour later, phish was back in his bowl. maybe it was just a cry for attention.

Rhino and Melon

this request was from a guy who's "family mascots are the rhino and the watermelon". does that make this painting their new family crest?

Star

this is what i picture one of those origami stars would look like if it suddenly came to life.

Special Sheep

this painting looks a little different than my usual style for a reason. i used a technique that allows you to view the image in 3-D almost like those magic eye posters from the 90's. just unfocus your eyes and try to see the third dimension emerge. if you're having trouble, try putting your nose to your computer screen and then slowly move your head backwards.

april fools :)
