Megaphone

i'm back from the wedding. it was lovely. and so far they're still married so they're beating the odds!

i have a strong dislike for loud things. though this is not a loud thing itself. it makes other things loud. it's an enloudener, if you will. i still dont like it.

Ice Cream Truck

my cousin is getting married. yay for him. so i'm going to maryland to see family members, sit in a church, do the electric slide and not paint. i'll post again once i've returned.

yesterday i got a popsicle from an ice cream truck. i didn't have to chase after it because it was parked at the yearly carnival in my town. it was great. i love "turkey in the straw" and having a blue mouth.

Traffic Light

for about seven months now i've had a one to two hour commute to and from work. when one spends that much of one's life in a car, one tends to frequently think about traffic-y things. thats why i painted this stoplight.

Alligator

this guy is very similar to a little clay sculpture i made in middle school. i covered a 2 inch tall glass bottle with sculpey.

Toucan

a bird who's diet consists primarily of breakfast cereal. the bright colors are a result of ingesting so much yellow #6, red #40, yellow #5 and blue #1.

Mammoth

his name is Harold L. Efant. friends call him harry. don't be mislead, though. he's a woolly mammoth. the name is just a coincidence.

26th and Carson

my billboard is up. yay! its actually been up since the fourth of this month but i'm finally posting it now. go see it at the corner of 26th and carson street in the south side of pittsburgh. i figured it would be apropriate to include a guy that uses the word "jagoff" in the documentation. i bet he just finished a sammich and an ahrn city at primanti's and now he's headed back to the still mill.

When Pigs Fly

pigs are pretty heavy. i wonder how big their wings would have to be to actually work. maybe i should have made him a pilot.

Cupcake

i don't think i've actually ever seen a cupcake with a cherry on top but i thought it would be a good addition.

Crab

i love shellfish. eating them, that is. painting one was ok but eating them is better.

Cobra

i was about to give him a rattle and then i remembered that i can't give him a cobra head and a rattlesnake tail. i mean, i guess i can do whatever i want. the lack of rules in art is mind boggling. a rattle cobra?? thats just crazy!

Tank

if it wasn't terrible for the environment. i would totally want one of these for everyday travel.

Fish Bones

this makes me think of the cartoon heathcliff. he was always chowing down on a fish and tossing away the bones.

Bubble Gun

"bubbles are huge with the young female demographic but i think there's untapped potential with young boys. if only there was a way to connect playing with bubbles to violence." -bubble gun inventor

Beaver

i put this at the end of the pittsburgh series because it kind of fits. i grew up outside of pittsburgh in a town called beaver. so this is my tribute to a county outside of the city.

The Pirate Parrot

i would also love to be the pirate parrot. it wouldn't be as cool as iceburgh, though. you're out in the hot sun instead of in a ice arena. plus you don't get to skate and you have to do backflips on the dugout. but the pirate parrot definitely wins on appearance. his costume has cooler colors and a ball cap.

Iceburgh the Pittsburgh Penguins Mascot

holy crap how cool would it be to get to dress up in a penguin suit and play with hockey fans for a job. you get to skate, dance and throw t-shirts at people who desperately want them. and you get to have a pun for a name!

Pop

back in the burgh and back to painting.

another somewhat pittsburgh themed painting because we call it "pop" here not "soda".

Ketchup and No Posts This Weekend

i'm going away for the weekend with my friend to nyc. yay! so i won't be painting until i get back. i'm filling my weekend up with broadway shows!

my brother works for this company. its a big pittsburgh thing...that's all over the world. there's no competition for heinz ketchup. anyone using hunt's is lying to themselves.

Go Pens!

i just watched the final game at mellon arena this season. it was a darn good game. thats all i can say. DARN good.

i painted this because i wanted to talk about the penguins not because it was a request. then next 30 or so paintings will be ones where i decide the subject matter because they're not getting mailed to requesters. the Citywide Salon into which i was accepted (mentioned in a previous post) also includes a show in july. i'm supposed to display the work that was printed on the billboard at the gallery. too bad i gave all 432 of them away. so now i'm painting a series of new ones to display and give away at the show. i'm excited to paint what i decide instead of requests for a little bit. these first few are pittsburgh themed because the Citywide Salon is a very pittsburgh event and i thought it would be appropriate.

Flower with a Smile

another 4x5" piece for the Real Small Art League. i actually debated posting these past two with my free paintings because they're not my usual size but i decided i should since they're still free art. they're just being given away in a different fashion.

Free Paintings for a Price

i reserved a booth at an arts and crafts show in my home town. i've been doing some paintings to hopefully sell there in a couple of weeks. these are small versions of some of my early free paintings. they're also available for sale in my online store.

Caterpillar

this little guy is on 4"x5" canvas instead of my usual size because he was sent to the Real Small Art League. its a project in richmond, VA where artists leave small artworks around the city to be picked up by anyone. free art! the coordinator emailed me about being a part of the project and i gladly sent in two small paintings. i'll post the second one tomorrow.

Buddha Hanging Out with Superman

two paintings today because the pens distracted me on saturday again.

poor robot. he's a victim of robotism. he was just trying to help but even superman thinks all robots are evil.

my second buddha portrait. i wonder if he would have liked it.
