I Get to Visit Seattle!

i'm going to a convention for work so i shan't be painting for a while. any of my internet friends going to PAX??? i must have some nerdy followers out there, right? come find me during the long lines. i'll be helping to run Get in Line.

be back next week!

NASA Employees are Too Busy to Respond to Me

this picture was the body of an email (pasted image only. no text.) that had the subject "please paint me!" she hasn't responded yet after i sent a picture of her finished painting. i wonder if it is actually her. if you google "virtual reality equipment" this image comes up first which seems to be a before shot. it also says "photo courtesy of NASA". i wonder if the number one virtual reality equipment girl from NASA actually requested a painting.

Who Needs the Other Parts

i've totally been to new york before. i don't think the city is just two buildings, a bridge and a statue. that's just how it came out of my head.

Segways Are Herbivorous and Native to Africa

remember when rhinos were the wave of the future? man that animal had a lot of hype around it. then no one cared. stupid rhinos. you were supposed to change the world. then george w. bush tried to ride one and fell off.

This Could Have Been My Design

this is for a woman that owns a company called Rebel Dog Training. she actually emailed me initially to hire me to design her logo. that's definitely a contract i'd take but by the time i got to her email in the wait list of painting requests, she had already gotten a logo from someone else. so i made a free painting of it for her.

All These Plush Pokemon I Bought Just Aren't Cutting It

why hasn't science genetically engineered pokemon into real life? a pet with a lightning tail that shoots electricity is way cooler than some boring cat. but then of course that would make this another pet portrait.

Using My Gifts for Neither Good Nor Evil

this is the second self portrait i've been asked to paint. i definitely feel super and robotic. but actually i'm no hero. that implies i save people which implies i value people. can't a girl have super powers and not use them for good? and be made of metal. and also wear a logo on her chest. by the way, i'm pretty sure my superpower is subtext. what a gift!

Birds of a Feather. Precisely 27 Feathers

"I would like a panda bear that has a big smirk on his face. I want him to have blue eyes. I would like for him to be saying "tay hay". I would also like him to be sitting on 29 pieces of bamboo." this came from the roommate of the guy who requested "a painting with 23 colors on it and a small turtle." i guess people that similarly like to make me paint things in considerable numbers like to habitate together

How Does It Feel to Be a Deadly Sin?

this should be one of a seven part series. up next is a group of lions for "pride". too bad there are no no animals called wrath, greed, lust, envy or gluttony.

Oh Wait, Those Were Cocks

i feel like the male artists in my high school that used to graffiti these any place they could find. desks, chairs, walls, textbooks. and they never didn't find it funny. such bright, creative boys.

The New Kids on the Block Are Now Just Those Neighbors That Have Been Around Quite a While

at what point does york need to be called old york so new york can just go by york. and aren't dippin' dots "the ice cream of today" by now?

Songs for the Beach, a Silent Film, Some Conquest and the Prize Behind Door Number One

i just finished a group of songs for some video games my company is working on. i thought i'd share.

some surfing music for a beach themed game

some shuffling music for an old timey themed game

some dragon hunting music for a D&D themed game

some "come on down!" music for a game show themed game

The Only Reason He Hasn't Requested Is Because He's So Cool That He Pays for Art

mr. dicaprio requested by the man himself. ok not really but that would have been cool.

Sometimes Fitting in Is More Special Than Being Special

all the horses made fun of him for being born with a star on his head. then he got chosen to pose for a very special painting because of his very special gift. now all the horses make fun of him for that, too.

I Should Have Done This One on Velvet

there is someone in the world that wanted an piece of artwork representing a poodle in a vest juggling four Elvises. the only question this prompts from me is "when you pluralize Elvis, is it Elvises or Elvisi? or Elvi?"

Evil Damsel and Villain in Distress

a guy requested this for his brother. the girl is his favorite manga character, Mio, and the guy is his favorite villain, Lex Luthor. next time i'm painting the woman holding the man.

I Also Had Difficulty with a Pentagram

it's kind of hard to make two cat's tails form an anarchy symbol so i just went with a heart.

Maybe I Should Have Put the Butterfly and Tree on Bikes, Too

"If you could paint it of some llamas, bicycles, trees, butterflies, nature, with as many colors as humanly possible that would be GREAT!" well i hope it's great. it's certainly not to the human limits of amount of colors. and there is only one llama, one bicycle, one tree and one butterfly as opposed to the plurals she asked for. and i felt like asking for nature was redundant because llamas, trees and butterflies are all representative of nature so i didn't add any more nature elements. but like i said, i hope it's great.

Like Cupcakes Mixed with Unicorns

the Brookstone Beer Bulletin wrote about my beer paintings and also requested one. they actually write about beer in art once a day. what's not to like about combining one awesome thing with another awesome thing?

Far Too Fantastic

this painting is beyond my suspension of disbelief. why would a turtle want a shower? how did he turn the shower on? how would he actually wash himself? isn't this actually tortoise and not a turtle therefore he isn't an aquatic animal? isn't the water getting in his eyes right now? where is the water draining to? or coming from, for that matter, because there are no pipes. preposterous.

Thrilled to Be Dead

i should try making the skull look happy next time. "hey hey, kiddies! this pretty colored stuff here is poison!"

It Took an Entire Rainforest to Make that Lei

i'd like to think that's a normal sized guitar and this guy is huuuuuge.

My Influence Was My Own Design

this request was for a rose and i decided to base it on one of the designs i just created for a game my company is working on called Pocket Garden Game. (by the way, i did the web design for that site, too.) you grow virtual flowers by using your mobile phone's GPS to "plant" them all around the world. this rose is one of the fully grown ones you can unlock. and you're actually not supposed to see it until you earn it within the game. so don't look at the image below because i'm not supposed to disclose secret stuff like that.

i'm a terrible employee. it's a good thing no one reads my blog. which also means my plug for the game was useless. actually, the only one of my coworkers that follows my rss is our former producer that just left the company so haha he can't fire me now. (hi andy!)

He's a No Smoking Sign on Your Cigarette Break

he looks so triumphant but according to Alanis Morissette, he's pretty much worthless, even 10,000 of him, when you need a knife.

And You Thought Hawks Were as Awesome as They Could Get

from now on i will refer to all hawks as single hawks to distinguish them from the magnificent double hawk. side note: i showed this painting to one of my friends and he just saw a painting of a hawk and didn't even notice the double set of wings!

Also Comes in Fish Light and Fish Light Lime

i can't decide if he poured out of the beer can or if he somehow made his way from his fishbowl to the beer. well i guess finding a fish in the beer you just opened is kind of terrifying. but so is a suicidal fish with the will to get in your drink. and so is your friend putting your pet in your beer at a party. but less terrifying depending on what number beer you're on. it reminds me of the stories i've heard of frat boys swallowing goldfish. it also reminds me of my fish in a blender paintings. which i've painted four times! why do people like tormenting goldfish?

I Could Be Wrong. It Might Be a "Coaster". That Sounds More Useful.

i'm not familiar with this device. it's known as a "calculator". that must mean it "calculates". i'm not familiar with that verb either. i'm only exposed to things that "compute".

It'd Be Funnier If I Happened to Be on a Panda Writing About a Panda

darn it. i had a painting and the internet yesterday. i just forgot to post.

by an interesting coincidence, i'm currently on a bike writing about a bike i painted. thought mine is stationary with a laptop sitting on the screen between it's handlebars. multitasking! blogging WHILE staying fit. also, watching a movie. well mostly listening to a movie because it's hard to look at two screens at once.

pandas are natural born pugilists. that's why they always have two black eyes.
