When I was a kid, in the principal's office at my elementary school was some cartoon character promotional poster that had the phrase "You can be anything you put your mind to."
Despite ending in a preposition (which, while technically not incorrect, is still bad form), the poster sank deep into seven year old Thomas' brain. Because kids are stupid, and he thought that meant literally.
So I used to spend embarrassing amounts of time trying to WILL myself into becoming a robot, because i was sure i'd be much happier that way.
