Redapes.org asked me to do some t-shirt designs based on the orangutans you can adopt on their site. aren't they cute? the shirts are being printed now so i'll post about them again once they're available.
the head of redapes.org asked for this one. to thank me, he made me the adoptive mother of four orangutans! then i ended up doing some t-shirt designs for him. they're going to be sold on his site. i'll post more about them soon.
its kind of like the take a penny leave a penny tray only with living things. i just noticed now that these three cats together make lovely halloween decorations.
i just saw xanadu on broadway. this painting reminds me of that show. it was a pretty terrible movie turned into a stage production that makes fun of that pretty terrible movie. also included are actors on roller skates. the show wasn't bad. obviously better than the film even though the film had olivia newton john. the definition of xanadu is an idyllic, beautiful place. xanadu is also the name of charles foster kane's estate in citizen kane. xanadu the movie/musical states that it is making art and being loved. it sounds like i'm trying to get to xanadu.
this logo is inaccurate. the nbc chimes from N to B are up a major sixth and then from B to C, down a major third. the B chime should be smaller than the C chime because it is higher.
here's another character design i had to do for work. remember when people celebrated the easter bunny? how silly we were. this is now a tribute to that absurd rabbit replaced by the sensible easter dino.
its the easter dino! this post is my proposal to change this holiday's mascot to a dinosaur. the easter dino makes way more sense than the easter bunny. for one thing, we have no idea what color dinosaurs were so it's totally possible that they were pink. no bunnies are pink. aaaaand, dinosaurs ACTUALLY laid eggs. bunnies do not. stop spreading nonsense at easter. convert to the easter dinosaur.
i just booked my next Power Hour Concert. Stop by Peter's Pub in Pittsburgh on April 18th for 60 songs about drinking. and they're all one minute long.
i think i'd better brush up on my lyrics. its hard remembering all the synonyms for drunk.
sheep as a singular noun sounds weird to me. it sounds plural all the time as if its impossible to ever speak of one sheep. (yep, still sounds weird.) i guess that's appropriate considering sheep are also used as a metaphor for group mentality.
as you can see, i still have some green left in my system from st. patrick's day. literally and figuratively (because there was, of course, green food coloring in the beer).
i also did some freelance work for holiday t-shirts. a very big fan of green beer and jameson commissioned me to make these tasteful designs. there were 22 people stumbling around pittsburgh wearing these shirts on saturday.
i just recently had to design a leprechaun character at work so i figured i'd post him today. he's happy because once a year he's able to ignore how evil mcdonald's is so he can have a shamrock shake.
happy st. patrick's day! i had to bump this request up a few days so i could post it today. i know he's the boston celtics mascot but at least its a leprechaun. his name is lucky.
he looks like he's from a hamsterdance version of grease. remember hamsterdance? i'm pretty sure that's the first viral thing i encountered on the internet. and it's still brilliant.
this woman saw the viper i painted from battlestar galactica (i'm guessing thanks to google image search) and asked for a portrait of chief tyrol from that show.
a guy from a band called horses and hamburgers asked for this. i like to think the hamburgers are made out of horse meat just to add more discomfort to this already oddly disturbing scene.
this painting is hanging up where i work. its the new logo for Wild Pockets. i guess this would be the first free painting i've given to a group. it also wasn't requested. i just really wanted to do it because the logo is a square and fits on my standard 12x12's perfectly.
this was a commissioned portrait for this couple's wedding. i did it a while ago but i'm posting it now because i just added it to my portfolio site. its actually pretty large even though you can't tell here (24"x18"). below is the photograph i used. the guy had me paint it as a gift for the gal. i was prepared to make it photo realistic but he said he wanted cartoony so i gave it a similar style to my free paintings.
