Should Be Just a Palate of Orange and Purple

ok, i'm off to New Orleans in five hours to play a show at House of Blues this weekend! so, unlike this panda, i won't be painting. (until monday, that is.)



when i originally sketched this guy, he had four different colors on his palate. then when it came to actually painting, i changed it to six. i don't think it's fair how the primary colors are often used with green (e.g. the google logo). i know that green is a primary color of light but it just seems like orange and purple get short changed all the time. so i made it a point to make room for them.

this request was for breakfast on a plate. i was allowed to pick whatever breakfast i wanted. bacon is really popular. whenever i have the opportunity, i always go for the pandering with my art.

My Last Weekend Post for Quite a While

i got forgetful this weekend so i have to post yesterday's today, sorry! i'm actually going to miss a lot of weekends in a row starting now because i'll be traveling for my Power Hour tour. but don't worry, i'll be painting and posting when i'm home during the weekdays.



i figured a video-game-playing robot would just need to push buttons. i don't know why i even gave him feet. he just needs to be able to sit on a couch. i should have just made him with a built-in couch like hedonism bot from futurama.




the request was for "smitten kitten and love monkey superhero crime fighting duo". i can't tell - because they're wearing masks - but i think their alter egos are a dog and a lizard.

Context Is Important. But So Are Other Things.

i FREAKING LOVE futurama. i think it's because i used to watch it during the time i was training for my first marathon. i would come home from a long day at work followed by a long workout. at that moment i would finally be able to relax after conquering the day and futurama would be on while i ate a well deserved dinner. i also think i freaking love futurama because futurama is freaking great.

i'm sorry. i'm so so sorry. please don't look. it's not my fault. i was asked to recreate this eye-bleedingly-awful logo. (logo being a generous term here. but yes. a "company" is actually using the image below as their "logo".) i sincerely hope this was created in 1992 in MS Paint. not that it would really be an excuse for such an awful use of color. awkward shapes. thin, weak, unpleasing outlines. and creepy everything else. i can actually tell that this abomination wasn't created in MS Paint because it has that horrid red drop shadow on it. what!? i usually try to be civil with what i post about my requests but this is just horrendous. (it also doesn't help that the requester was difficult to deal with and told me i wasn't "making enough of my artistic gift." whatever the heck that means.) if the guy that created this embarrassment happens to see my post, i'm sorry. . . for your lack of eyeballs. please pick a new profession.

this painting is conflicting for me because i loooove ballet. yet (as you most definitely know if you're a continued reader of my blog) i may not be that pleased with all the requests to paint pets that i get. so this is something great mixed with something that's maybe not so great.

this mess is something known as rna translation. i think. the requester seemed happy with it so i think i got it right. i copied the illustration very closely because i had no idea what i was painting. you can't take artistic liberties with something you don't understand.

this dog's name is nig. aka niggy. i was slightly uncomfortable making that the title of the painting. i have a feeling the guy below doesn't live in an "urban" area otherwise he wouldn't be able to call for his dog outside.

she is sad because she just realized that it's highly possible i'm painting for dead people. my wait list is about two and a half years long now. plenty could happen during that time, including expiration. i'm sure some of the people that don't respond to my emails once they get to the top of the list are for this reason.

Anomaly Art

soak this in because it's the only time you'll see hello kitty with absolutely no pink on or around her. the requester got it for her friend who doesn't like pink. i don't know how you can like hello kitty and not pink. she's just lucky i was here to make a green hello kitty exist because it won't happen anywhere else.

i went with green because it's as far away from pink as i could get. but i just realized now that i've inadvertently created a pink "goodbye kitty" in the process. stare at this painting for 60 seconds and then look at a white wall. you'll see a black cat wearing pink!

first, let me open by saying the creature in this painting isn't made up. it's a microraptor, a small, four-winged dinosaur. second, i will mention that it didn't actually fly. it glided. what the heck?? microraptor, you have TWICE the wings of a bird and still can't fly?! clearly you're just not trying hard enough.

A Tale of My Error and Edit

since i was a jerk and left you hanging all weekend without any explanation, i'll give you some bonus content today! an extra little story of my screw up.

a few weeks ago i fulfilled a request for a painting of two scotties and a westie.



at least i thought that was the request. it turns out i read it wrong and the requester actually has ONE scottie and TWO westies. oops. she pointed out the error when i emailed her a photo of the finished painting to get her shipping address. i'm glad she told me because no one should have a less-than-perfect painting due to my reading comprehension level. so i dunked the far right one in bleach.



scottie just went from being the majority to the minority.
