Glass of Milk
i was tempted to rotate this 90 degrees counter clockwise to make it seem like its spilling. it would probably make me cry though.

Sushi the Fish
this fish's name is sushi. my friend has a pet pig named mushu. i wonder how it feels to have a name that references one's self getting eaten. i guess thats what it's like for humans with the last name donner.

New Blog Design!
wooo! now my blog design isn't just a boring template anymore. it's an exciting altered template! i hesitated to design my blog for a long time. i was struggling with a way to visually present all aspects of my art since this blog is about all of my "art adventures". though most of my posts are free paintings, i didnt want to leave out the music aspect or illustrations or animations etc. i decided to go with a bright candy/ice cream treat look. that seems to sum up anything i try to create. candy :)

Chainsaw Chop-Suey
this request was for whatever the phrase "chainsaw chop-suey" makes me think of. as one can see, i went with literal. so is it a very tiny chainsaw or a giant bowl of food?

A Second Set of Loving Robots
the requester wanted a "replica" of my robot love painting, "same color scheme and everything". i should have offered to sell her a print.

Robot equals Robot. Moose equals $1.
i just updated my free paintings trades page. i got a roomba sent to me in return for a painting of a robot. how cool is that?! a robot for a robot. and i also got an origami dollar ring. i think if i wear it long enough it will turn into a burrito from taco bell. also, i'm the adoptive mother of four lovely orangutans. i mentioned this before on my blog but now its officially listed as a trade.
Blue Eyed Kitty
this is a painting of a real life kitty that didn't come from a photograph. the requester just said it is white with blue eyes and gold tips on it's ears. i liked this different approach to pet portraiture.

Tired Fox
the style i use for my backgrounds suggests movement from the painting's subject. this one is kind of weird to me because the fox is sleeping and the paint strokes around him take away any stillness or calm that you would expect to be depicted around something unconscious. maybe he's cold and shivering in his sleep. or maybe he's dreaming about being on a massage chair. or maybe he's so scared he's shaking but playing dead until you leave.

Popcorn Fellow
this is one of four characters in the famous "let's all go to the lobby" animation from the drive-in theater. he's very excited to get eaten.

Maulwurfs Messerstecher Flag
someone asked for a flag instead of a canvas. it was fun to do something different though i hope it doesn't encourage others to ask for flags. and when i say "flag" i actually mean "cut up pillowcase".

Caveman
ah. life was much more simple when humans tools were less like laptops, cars and televisions and more like a piece of a tree. too bad hunter/gatherer isn't a legit profession anymore.

Musicbot then Surfboard
i blame the pittsburgh penguins for me not putting up yesterday's painting. i had my computer open intending to post and i got distracted by them schooling the flyers.
this is for someone that wanted a surf themed painting. i thought about painting him a shark but opening a 12"x12" piece of mail with a shark in it is enough to give any surfer a heart attack.
this painting is based on a picture of stuffed toy that a requester found online.
this kind of crazy to me because its a mixture of my fuzzbots
and my jambot t shirt.
so someone out there thinks a lot like me. i'm not sure who the original creator is because there's a few different versions being sold on etsy. i'm always kind of bummed when i see people that had the same idea as me. especially if they're making money on it. but its not like i have the time to sew more fuzzbots to sell online. and it probably would not be that lucrative. but anyway it makes a good free painting.

Burton's Coffee
i was asked for something coffee themed and i thought i'd make it an homage to burton morris. like andy warhol and myself, he graduated from carnegie mellon. this may look familiar if you watch the sitcom "friends" because his work hangs in the background of the coffee shop scene.

Photoshop Boredom
my job has been having a lot of trouble giving me enough things to do lately. so this morning i occupied my time with making these just because i wanted to. and for the deep conceptual meaning i had to convey.

Ninja Otter
a guy asked for this ninja otter and then said, "Not a robot ninja otter, mind you, as that would be excessive." haha well played. a requester making fun of a former request...and himself.

Citywide Salon
i got accepted to Pittsburgh's Citywide Salon which means i get to display this on a bus stop billboard in the city! there are 432 paintings on it. (i've done 479 so far so sorry to the other 47 paintings that didn't make it on.) the final print is going to be 69" tall which means each painting is almost 3"x3" large! i'll post a photo of the bus stop once its up.
Still No Goats
the first time i did a no goats painting it was for a girl with the last name kozomara which translates to "goat slayer". this one is just for someone that liked the first anti-goat painting. it was a strange request when i first got it but i think its weirder that a second person wanted it too.

Polar Bear Ride
i want to use a polar bear as transportation! i'd use it to get to work. i wouldn't even have to pay when i parked at meters because my vehicle would just eat the meter maid.

a spoon can only save the day if your day involves a desperate need to eat soup but no way to get it from the bowl to your mouth.

Trousers
first of all....trousers? really? someone wanted to immortalize pants in a piece of artwork?! secondly, who uses the word trousers anymore?? this request is from canada. maybe up there it's a normal term.
this painting actually reminded me that some of my friends in high school used "pants" as my nickname. also, "ali pants" at times. pants is my favorite word. i don't know if it's normal to have a favorite word. i also have a least favorite word which i won't mention because i've never had a good experience after revealing it. anyway, pants is a great word.
