Gas and Go
i was asked this: Could you paint a chain smoking, asthmatic, semi-humanoid white rabbit named Daisy (male) with a high tech prosthetic leg who's pumping gas in a "Gas and GO" uniform who looks irritated with the world around him?
i'd like to note that his prosthetic leg is so high tech, you can't even see how it's different from his real leg. i'd also like to note that just now i realized i forgot the prosthetic leg part and had to make up an excuse for not following the request exactly. i hope the requester doesn't mind too much.

A Buffalo of the Water Variety
sorry i'm 10 minutes past yesterday posting this. i'm up late painting tonight because my band had a gig last night so i'm off my normal schedule. also, i'm in a band now. i'll post more about it once i've finished designing our myspace. but who am i kidding. that's not why you're here. on to the real reason you're reading this....the picture you found on google image search:

the requester asked for this one because her favorite animal is the water buffalo. i found that kind of odd until she explained herself. her adoration is due to the fact that their horns remind her of "a cute flippy hairdo". she also loves the super viral famous 40 million hit internet video Battle at Kruger.

Robot with 2 Antennas
it's got a V shaped upper body which is characteristically male but it also looks like it has hips. good thing robots are genderless. there's an interesting twist on that in the movie "WALL-E". WALL-E is the male with a male name and appearance while Eve has the female name and appearance. yet WALL-E demonstrates traits that are typically feminine. he is needy, romantic, caring and emotional. Eve is cold, powerful and distant which are typically viewed as male traits. So maybe WALL-E is a boy with stereotypically female traits like you initially think. or maybe WALL-E is a girl that looks like a boy. and vice versa for Eve. maybe Eve and WALL-E are both boys or both girls. or both some third gender that only robots have. either way it's great that this movie could subtly break gender stereotypes especially because it came from a company that created Snow White and Cinderella! then again i may be looking to much in to this. disney sure made some cute robots.

Otter Badger Love
oh look. another two animals request. ANOTHER person had the idea of representing himself and his significant other as creatures.....or maybe i'm just making assumptions. maybe these two animals don't represent two people in a relationship. heh. maybe someone would just like to see an otter marry a badger.

Flying Penguin
the flying penguin is a recurring theme in my artwork. below are some examples of other flying penguin art i've created. "The Flying Penguin" is also the title of the final track from my first album. That song also has a flash animation.
this request wasn't specifically for a flying penguin. the requester wanted "A painting of you. Not a portrait of you, but whatever kooky little symbol you feel sums up all the stuff in your head." now i'm realizing i will have trouble parting with it. i hope, if in the future these paintings are ever worth something over $0, that this one will be worth way more.

Colorless Boombox
this requester wanted an "old school" boombox with a tape deck and graphic equalizers. and it had to be in silver on a black background. i think the lack of color looks pretty cool. maybe i'll go through a black and white period. but instead of painting things in black and white, i'll only paint things that are naturally black and white. now my subjects are limited to boomboxes, robots, guns, record players, TVs, headphones, cameras, microhpones, elephants, pandas, sheep, polar bears, skunks, killer whales, zebras, skulls, grim reapers, more robots, toasters, music notes... wait a minute, that's basically my whole portfolio. so much for my "limited" idea.

An Orange Sport-Related Thing
this request was for "any thing related to sports with a lot of orange color." haha of course i went with the obvious. its TOO obvious. it would be trying too hard if i didn't paint a basketball. what if that was a crossword puzzle clue? it would be a terrible clue cause it's too easy! what's orange and related to sports? i dunno, i'm sure they make orange badminton racquets. painting that based on this request would be dumb.

Bunny and Bear, Squid and Whale
i thought i was doing better with remembering weekend posts because i got an iphone. yes, i have an iphone. my brother gave it to me for christmas and i totally didn't want it. now i totally wish i could marry it. but anyways, it was reminding me to post on the weekend and that was great. but if i don't remember to tell it to tell me to remember to post, then it doesnt remind me. hence i missed sunday. i'm ok with forgetting though because the following two paintings go nicely together in one post and allows me to write about a requesting trend.
a common occurence is the two animals request. people in relationships use animals to represent their personalities and then ask me to paint these two animals together. i'm fine with this type of request as long as the requester isn't thinking he or she is clever and innovative for coming up with this idea. based on all the people that have also come up with it, it is not fresh and original. as long as i tell myself the requester knows their idea is just another repeat of something that everybody thinks of then i am not irritated :)
though some how my irritation may have come out in this bear and rabbit painting. i found it humorous to present a more realistic representation of the two animals together instead of painting them the same size and holding hands because it seems absurd that these animals could be in any relationship other that one that is categorized as predator-prey. i hope the requester doesnt mind :) actually, i just hope the requster is still dating her animal boyfriend. that's another issue with these two animal requests! i don't get to the painting until a long time after it was requested and i have no idea if the couple will still be together.
so i got another two animals request but this time it was for a giant squid attacking a sperm whale. i doubt it's actually a representation of a relationship but i'd like to think it is. that would be something fresh. statistically, i should be doing more divorce paintings anyway! then again it took me so long to get to the painting, maybe the squid and whale worked things out and they're back married again.

'till death do us part.

maybe the bear is the girl and the bunny is the guy.

Another Tree
i'm surprised at how many tree requests i get. this is the 8th tree i've painted (though it's title is actually Tree Three because some of the other trees were titled more specifically such as the pine trees and a bonsai tree). really, who wants a painting of a tree? it seems like a blah request to me. not that the paintings don't turn out fabulous heh heh. it's just not something i'd imagine people would want. but they do! i mean, at least 8 people do.
