the person that requested this listed some of her interests and then said "Do with that what you will." the first thing she listed was knitting. this is what i did with it.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

i was commissioned to do this painting inspired by The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. it's really cool because just after i received the request, another person that had gotten one of my free paintings sent me a bunch of books to say thanks and one of them happened to be The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! crazy. i'd read the book before... actually, listened to it as a book on tape while i painted. but not the painting you'd think. i had a job painting walls for a while. just plain old white. actually, it was winter wheat. but i digress. i'd read the book but it was a while ago so i had to read through some key chapters as research for the painting. it depicts the planet magrathea that has two suns. the tennis shoe looking thing is actually a space ship with an "improbability drive". that drive just turned two missles into the petunia and sperm whales you see floating in space. the sperm whale has become self aware while the petunias think, "Oh no, not again." i dunno, it's a weird book. but it's defintely striving to be a weird book.

this is the last of the zebra print series. you can see them all together below. when they're hung correctly, the pattern matches up from one painting to the next.

First Zebra Print

this is one in a series of three zebra print paintings for my brother's girlfriend for Christmas. she requested them to match her black, white and red bathroom with a zebra print shower curtain. how lucky she is to be able to crap next to fine art.

A Puppet Copy

this is the second jester puppet i've painted. a software developer found an image of the first one online and asked if he could use it as the icon for his iPhone application. i told him he was welcome to. the application is called "Puppeteer" and can be used to control a home automation systems such as lighting, home theater equipment, heating & a/c, etc. you can see a picture of the icon below.



then a couple weeks later the developer's girlfriend emailed me to request the painting. she surprised him with it for Christmas.

The Google

google is an unbelievable, society-changing, stupendous, horrible wonder. and i love it. google has given us a global consciousness. one brain for all humans to feed and access. though it seems like something could backfire. either way, i'm glad i live in the age of google. and especially for my free paintings, google image search is a miracle. i just love that it's this huge cultural....THING. its not even a thing. it is intangible. but it's this incredible presence in our society now. i mean, it's become a verb! a verb i use VERY OFTEN. our reliance on it seems like there's a huge potential for abuse and manipulation. but shhhhh! don't tell google they own everyone's mind. i think they already know. i had to honor this google thing with a painting. plus my friend works for them and i needed a birthday gift for her haha

Pre-Med Mouse Study

this is for a pre-med student who studied mice for her first research project. her brother requested the painting and will be giving it to her for christmas.

Artichoke

this one is for my grandma for christmas. she always makes stuffed artichokes for holiday meals and they're fabulous. and her kitchen is green and orange.

Tour De France

the first two people that saw this painting couldn't tell what it was at first.

U of Chicago Mascot

this is for the women's assistant basketball coach at university of chicago. if i went to that school it would be quite a struggle for me at every athletic event to not light the mascot costume on fire.

Demon Lemon and a Little Girl

well, at least i remembered to post on sunday.

a guy that goes by the name "Demon Lemon" online made the graphic below and asked me to paint it. wait, or does he go by "Sir Pantalones"? or maybe Sir Pantalones made the image.

Gravedigger and Dove on My Birthday

geez i'm forgetting to post on WEEKDAYS now! i guess today can be special with two paintings because it's the day i was born. woo! now i'm 24....eek. does that mean mid twenty's instead of early twenty's? not that it matters. i just went figure skating and the woman selling the tickets aaaaand the guy working the door tried to give me the discounted rate for 12 year olds. dang.



this is inspired by the requester's chest piece tattoo. there's a sketch of it below. i think the tattoo is really cool because (the owner told me) the birds on the right side are pidgeons and the ones on the left are doves. but you can't tell from the sketch which makes it even cooler.






i once saw grave digger live. yes that's right...i went to a monster truck show. and if that's not bad enough, i went on valentine's day. yikes.

the requester of this painting met his wife on Yahoo Personals and wanted me to paint something that represents a man and woman meeting over the internet. i figured a less than symbol and the number three would work. although maybe it could be hung rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise too.

Turntable 6

this is the first one i've done on orange.

Penguin 5

the pittsburgh penguins beat the islanders last night 9 to 2. it was pretty cool because two penguins got their first NHL hat-tricks.

Husky

this pet painting was fun because i wasn't given a picture to work from this time. i just painted an idealized husky.

Hobo Duck

a duck with pants seems richer than most ducks, though.

Italian Greyhound

this requester wrote to me, "I know you've done a lot of pets. But not mine." haha awesome.

Hammer with a Pick on It

i'm back from vegas...and in the red. but it was fun. now back to giving away paintings instead of my cash.



the requester wanted something to do with archaeology because it is her ultimate goal. this must be a hammer with a pick on it because "pick" describes the noun "hammer" in the term "pick hammer". though i bet a "hammer pick" would look exactly the same.

Die Coke...and VEGAS!

i shan't be painting until next week because i'm going on vacation to vegas. sahweet. i shall part with my blog for some time so i can spend some time parting with my money.

Choze's Concert at Zen

my boy choze needed another flyer design. i don't know if i'd call him a national recording artist. but he would.

Buddha Logo, Wallace and Sheep with a Tattoo

i shall excuse myself for not posting due to the holiday. i'm actually surprised i remembered thursday and friday.



a mr. carneiro requested this painting. "carneiro" means "sheep" in portuguese. mr. sheep also has an ankh tattooed on his right shoulder.

this painting will be used as the logo for a company called The Chocolate Buddha.
