donkey in shrek marries a dragon. a dronkey is the result. i would love one for a pet. i guess i could give a donkey lots of beer and it would become a dronkey of a different variety.

A New Scottie and Slow Loris

i'm posting two today because i'm going away for the weekend to snowboard!



cmu got an official mascot this year. unofficially it was the scottie dog but now officially it's the scottie dog. i painted this to look like a cuter version of our new mascot. i'm giving it to the woman who's house i'm staying at while i snowboard this weekend. she's also a cmu grad.




i dont really know what the heck these animals are but they're quite cute.

Lizard

a guy wrote to me that his kids just caught an anole lizard and they'd love a painting of it. that was eight months ago. i have a feeling this is an effigy now.

Skull Tattoo

this is the painting for the guy (mentioned earlier) that got my skull tattooed on his finger. i tried to copy the original as closely as possible. its funny because its like i made a copy of a tattoo that was a copy of a painting.

Vectorfunk

the request was for an accordion themed image inspired by michael moore's vectorfunk. i actually feel a little weird doing something like him. though, it was interesting to see the style as a painting instead of on a computer screen.

the grey/black aura, many background colors and top hat were a part of the request. this reminds me of that early disney animation where the skelletons dance and use their own bones as percussion instruments.

i was asked to make this guy red/brown. i thought it looked pretty red/brown when i painted it but now i'm only seeing brown/brown. and the complementary green doesnt bring it out any better. i'm sure the requester will throw it away when she gets it.

Art Commitment

my new hero, buddy, just got my skull painting tattooed on his middle finger. he found the image online and decided to keep it...forever...on himself.





how cool is that?! i love the unconventional placement too. i'll be sending him his own free painting soon because he clearly deserves it.

Books

an archaeological painting of pre-internet entertainment. i painted it the way the picture shows but it really could hang any direction. i hope the owner rotates it occasionally as it hangs on the wall. i feel like "knowing which way is up" is the torment of abstract art collectors.

Beer Mug

this is only the second beer mug i've painted since i started. that surprises me. i guess i overestimate the world's love for beer. then again, i did write a power hour.

this is the companion cube from portal. i'm guessing portal is a video game and this 3-D square is the physical manifestation of friendship according to nerds.

Raccoon and Squid

i posted later than my usual time today. thats because i was at my JOB. that's right! a job. that i go to and do work.....part time......even better! its at an animation studio which is swell. day one went well. i'm not a bitter cog in the workforce yet. and still painting:



this painting is absurd. the requester asked for a combination of any two animals and one of them had to be a squid. actually, that request is kind of absurd too. first of all, its not "any two animals" if one must be a certain type. and why didn't he care what the second animal would be?? why would two animals be so important but the kind of animal doesn't matter?!

i decided on a raccoon for the second creature because its the last thing i would think to see hanging out in the ocean with a squid. oh and to make it more absurd, this is taking place in the daytime and raccoons are nocturnal. aaaand, the guy that wanted this hasn't responded to my email when i attached a picture of his painting asking if i could mail it to him so i'm going to have to get someone else to take it from me. i'll just have to find another person that wants a painting of a squid and a raccoon.....what?! it even sounds ridiculous when i write it out. a PAINTING of a SQUID and a RACCOON. absurd.

yes, another strange concoction challenge for me. people love to take three things they like and have me turn them into one thing.

this makes me think of hedwig or archimedes or that character from the tootsie pop commercial. so many famous owls.

Undead Girlfriend

the requester asked for one painting of a guy zombie and one of a girl zombie to represent him and his girlfriend. i wrote back (6 months later after i finally got to his request) asking which one he would rather have because i can't do two paintings per person. it turned out that he broke up with his girlfriend the day before i emailed him. he still wanted a girl zombie painting to remember "this weirdo situation".

Boston Terrier Two

i'm home and i'm $350 less poor! vegas is sweet. now back to painting which is more financially risky than gambling.



i usually paint whole objects but i like how just showing his face makes this painting look bold.

Idea Drill and Vegas!

i'm leaving until friday to visit las vegas. woo! maybe i'll come back with more money to blow on free paintings. probably less. so wish me luck and i'll start painting again when i get back.

his primary function is being fat but he can also sweat and complain. he used to have a "do something" mode but it broke when his chassis expanded.

Rat Nerd

the guy that wanted this told me he's writing a comic strip about a smart but shy rat. sounded like a nerd to me.

Puppet

the requester said to do a marionette or puppet. i chose to make him a jester. i like his outfit. i'd wear it if i could find it somewhere. and in my size. it would go well with mismatched shoes.

Cowboy

yeeeee hawww! why he's listening to a black flag record, i don't know. why he has a big old mustache, because he's rootin tootin. though i can't tell if he's at a hootinany, hoedown. maybe its a thanksgiving shindig.

Elephant

my one friend thinks that if a word ends with the same letter(s) with which the word following it begins, the two words should become one word. the example she always uses is "the elephant" should be "thelephant".

a guy liked my robot painting and my planet painting and my cow painting. a perfect formula. now he likes his one painting thats three times as good. art and math combine to put a robot cow on saturn!

Second Zombie

i was surprised when i got my first zombie request but here's another one. i think i've had some before too that were also on a list of suggested subjects but i ended up choosing to do something different. i guess zombies are more popular that i thought. people like paintings that want to eat your brain.
