i love the colors in the photo of this dog and the way the shape of his body fits right in with the fallen tree behind. he seems so still and yet the dead tree has so much movement. its a darn good picture.

A Penguin and His Nickel

the person who wanted this painting has a nickel and a short amount of time to find out who owns said nickel. that's why he's holding a candle burning at both ends. that's the only information he gave me. quite intriguing.

Doggie

i was just asked for a dog with no specifics. i hope black an white spots are acceptable. actually, the requester did specify his tounge should be hanging out.

Wine Bottle

this requester said to do something with the letter k or the theme of wine. as you can see, i have skillfully combined the two.

Cat and Pig

i'm guessing the person that wanted this painting has these two animals as pets. i'm just hoping their pig isn't some other color. aren't most pet pigs black?

Gumby

stop motion animation is sweet. so are orange horses.

Drawing Board

this is a drawing board used by traditional animators. they light up to see through paper.

Tessa

the girl that owns this painting doesn't even own this dog. its her friend's dog but she loves it enough to want art dedicated to it.

Boat

this is a painting of a sailboat....not a toy sailboat.

Goth

she's holding a trapper keeper. thats what was asked of me. the cure on her t-shirt was also a part of the request. she's bored with life. that was my own touch.

Hell Tinky

this guy is a painting of another artist's circut bent doll. you flip the switches on his face and he makes different sounds. the artist wanted me to make him a graphic for t-shirts so that's why it has a white background.

Fast n Bulbous

i was told to put in this painting: orange, brown, a fish, a saxophone and the words "fast n' bulbous". after giving me those requirements, the requester wrote "I have absolutely nothing specific in mind, so feel free to do whatever you want with this information!" those five things seemed pretty specific to me. i just put them all together and she seemed to like it so i'm glad.

Turntable

this is the third turntable i've painted. the first two were on blue backgrounds. no one has specified that they wanted one that played two records. you definitely can't mix on this one.

Tapir

i didn't even know this animal existed until i got this request. then i saw one in real life at the san diego zoo. they're actually bigger and cuter than i expected. the person that requested this really loves them and did two projects on tapirs in college:

Retrobot and Space Turtle

sorry i missed yesterday. a couple of my friends had birthdays and a bunch of people were visiting to celebrate so i spent the weekend away from my house and computer.



my friend said he liked my planet paintings and my turtles. he decided to ask for a space turtle.



this isn't my variation on all the robot requests i get. someone said specifically to paint one of those retro toy robots.

Reachbot

this guy is called reachbot but he doesn't necessarily look like his only function is reaching. i guess he could be called walkbot 2 or clampbot or rotates-well-at-the-hips bot.

Punk Rock Dachshund

Apparently this requester has a wiener dog that's hardcore and wanted to immortalize her on canvas. I don't actually think it has a pink mohawk, though. That was the artist's licence.

An 8ctopus

i usually try to use blue-ish colors for aquatic animal backgrounds but i thought i'd match his eyes this time. maybe he's hanging out on dry land for a while. he does look like he's standing.

Duck (Jesus-ish?)

no this isn't a weird bird version of jesus. its actually inspired by a joke. the painting will hopefully (according to its owner) compel people to ask about it and subsequently, hear the gag. click on the picture to read the joke.

Going Away for a Bit....and a strange request

i'm going away again. i have a flight to san francisco today for a job interview. wish me luck! i'll be back next week. daily paintings will resume then. that being said, here's today's painting:

I would like a painting of teetering stack of pies with a shark looking at them with a hungry and mischevious look on his face with maybe some rainbows in the background. And the lucky charms cereal marshmallow shapes floating i nthe sky. That would be pretty rad. Oh and if you can maybe Christopher Walken on the other side of the pies also looking hungry. And somewhere on the paintign it should say "Oh crap."

yep. that was what i was asked. for the record, that tiny dark figure silhouette on the left side is christopher walken. and this guy hasn't emailed me back since i sent him a picture of his painting and told him it was done. maybe he doesn't want it anymore. its not like i can give it to anyone else.

Clothed Mantis

this one is a praying mantis wearing a traditional korean hanbok. the family i painted it for just adopted a baby from korea. this is now hanging in the baby's room. i think its pretty cool that kid is going to grow up looking at my art.

Ladybug

this one got sent to a girl that's just starting her first year of art school. she's mailing me some of her art in return. yay!

Hypnos

a guy asked me to paint this statue of hypnos, the greek personification of sleep. he also wanted me to keep a slighly dark edge to it because the original is creepy and intimidating.

Hummingbird

this guy is super idealized. i make it extra simplified and used even thicker blacks than usual. i like how he turned out.
